Dr. Juan Miguel Cancino Cancino

Dr. Juan Miguel Cancino Cancino is profesor normalista, he graduated in Biology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and achieved his PhD in Marine Biology at the Bangor University, Wales, United Kingdom in 1983.

He has been professor of undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Biology faculty at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and assistant professor at the sciences faculty at the Universidad de Chile. In 1992 he joined the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción, in Concepción, Chile and has been professor since 2004. Furthermore, he has been Dean of the sciences faculty for 3 periods and principal of the university since 2006 to the present day.

His lines of scientific research are the Biology and the Marine Ecology; he has published about 70 articles in books and magazines. He is publisher and author or co-author of more than 100 papers in congresses, conferences and workshops. He is member of several scientific associations and has been president of the Sociedad Chilena de Ciencias del Mar, of which he is Founder Member.

He practices diving, photography, poetry, painting and numerous technics of engraving. He has realized two photography exhibitions, “Al Sur del Sur: imágenes de la Antárctica estival” in 1999 and “Dos Rectores frente a la Creación”, a travelling exhibition shown in 4 different cities of Chile in 2014.
